Diversity and inclusion
Our vision is to be recognised as a leader in diversity. We passionately believe that to be truly diverse you also need to be an inclusive organisation – one that mirrors the societies in which we work.
We thrive through embracing our differences, whether they be social backgrounds, ethnicity, disability, gender, age, religion and sexuality. If people are very similar their views are going to be the same.
Diversity opens a rich potential for new ways of thinking, helping us to build successful and winning teams.
The world is changing – we are too
We recognise that in the construction industry we need to do more to create a diverse and inclusive culture.
The communities in which we work are getting more diverse – we need to reflect that change in our business.
We are growing and this is an opportunity that we’re seizing. Our aim is to attract people from diverse backgrounds who have an open and collaborative approach, creating environments where our employees feel valued, able to contribute and reach their potential.
Our vision for 2020
We’re not going to achieve our vision for diversity and inclusion overnight – it will take time to get to where we want to be.
But we’ve started on the journey and achieved some fantastic things. All employees regularly discuss and debate ethical and inclusion dilemmas, we celebrate and bring our values to life through our annual Skanska Way Week and everyone participates in our ethical behaviour training.
We’ve also created long-term partnerships with professional bodies and academia, while establishing a group with more than 150 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) ambassadors to help inspire the next generation.
Through putting in place formal processes to encourage applications from a broader range of talent and embedding diversity and inclusion training for all employees, we’re creating the right kind of mindset and culture.
And we’re aiming to lead industry too – creating debate that will change the face of construction.
