Skanska has a strong relationship with the trust. Every Thursday morning, volunteers help cook breakfast for the homeless, at the Trust’s drop-in centre. We have also supported a range of other events, including everything from health and wellbeing days to the charity’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
The Trust is based in east London and was founded in 1965. It runs a range of facilities including a drop-in centre, café and rehabilitation hostel and relies heavily on volunteers to help it provide services.
This special Christmas event for the Trust is just one of the many ways we leave a positive legacy in the communities where work, which ties in with our purpose ‘We build for a better society’.
Over the last 12 months, our employees spent over 6,000 hours helping communities through our ‘Lend a hand’ volunteering programme which allows people to take an extra day of paid leave each year to help a good cause.
Volunteering is just part of our overall commitment to society. We do everything from raising money for our charity partners, such as WaterAid and the Trust, to providing mentoring, training and work experience opportunities for young people.
We also promote careers in construction by developing programmes to attract a diverse range of candidates such as ex-offenders, military personnel, people from under privileged backgrounds and those returning to work after an extended career break.
