This multi-faceted Emirates Stadium project for Arsenal Football Club consisted of a complex programme of interrelated hard landscaping projects.
Service: Construction, Refurbishment
Market segment: Stadiums
Skanska installed five flights of bespoke Chinese granite stairs to provide access for fans coming from the south and west, and undertook the waterproofing and drainage for two new access bridges built across railway lines to the east and north east of the stadium. This new dramatic look, will help raise excitement levels for fans on match days as they approach the new stadium.
Underneath the stadium Skanska laid some 44,000m² of tarmac and 5,000m of kerbs for the players’, staff and VIP car parks and carried out major diversions of Network Rail’s drainage systems into a new Thames Water sewer at the top of the site known as the Northern Triangle.
A smart VIP and taxi drop-off plaza was created in front of the main stadium entrance and Arsenal superstore, using detailed granite paving and stainless steel features, and finished off with the positioning of two imposing canons for the Gunners.
To complete the project Skanska sunk 400m³ of concrete, 2.5m into the ground to provide the base for our installation of huge 3.5m high concrete letters spelling out “Arsenal”.
