Seven Acres, Cambridge is the first residential project for Skanska in the UK. Seven Acres is part of the wider Great Kneighton development in Trumpington just 10 minutes drive from the city centre. We are building 70 houses and 58 apartments at Seven Acres, with a mix of 3-4 bed family homes, 1-2 bed apartments and 2 bed duplex apartments.
We are building contemporary, sustainable homes with built-in functionality designed for everyday life.
Service: Residential development
Market segment: Building
Most of our homes at Seven Acres are designed to meet level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. But there is one, on Plot 75, that is designed beyond current standards and meets Code level 5.
Technical features of the homes to make them more sustainable include:Triple glazed windowsFabric first approachPhotovoltaic panels (PV)Water efficient homesMechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR)Sun pipes
As you enter Seven Acres there is a central square, with a pergola, wooden benches, and green space that all the community can enjoy. There are also communal gardens which creates a great place for people to mix with friends and family.
A welcoming bench at the entrance of each house is one of the trademark design features to encourage families and friends to sit and interact outside their homes.
The following design features were included to encourage natuarl wildlife and sustainable living at Seven Acres.
Swales - shallow channels in the ground that provide an ecological habitat and create an attractive landscape environmentGreen roofs -these help regulate rain water and discharge it at a slower rate to the surrounding area. They also provide a pleasant environment and a habitat for many invertebrate speciesBat and bird boxes - help encourage natural wildlife to flourish in the area around Seven AcresMini allotments - small sections throughout the communal spaces have been included for residents to grow and share their own fresh vegetablesTree-replanting -throughout Seven Acres many new trees have been planted.
