Skanska is committed to creating safe and healthy workplaces, with zero accidents being our target. We live by our Injury-Free Environment (IFE) culture, where we will work safely or not at all.
Our IFE programme is more than safety, it is a culture of care and concern for other people, which encourages everybody to accept responsibility for their own and their colleague’s well-being.Our aim is to engage with the entire workforce extending all of our behaviours such that we look out for one another, ensuring that everyone returns home from work safely to their family and friends every day.
The same principles apply at sea, where the central safety objective of Boskalis Offshore is No Injuries, No Accidents (NINA). This is also the name of our progressive programme, which is generating a great deal of positive interest from both inside and outside the industry and among our clients.
NINA is not just about procedures, it fosters ownership and creates a safety driven mindset. The programme holds all employees personally responsible for their own contribution to safety and ensures that safety can be discussed openly.

Skanska recognises that project development and construction related services can make a major contribution to a more sustainable world. We are committed to proactive environmental management at all levels locally and globally, positively influencing key stakeholders, especially customers and suppliers.
At Boskalis we want to be a leader in our industry in providing sustainable solutions. We invest continuously both inside and outside our company in our knowledge and expertise, with over 100 engineers and ecologists at our R&D division and our own engineering consultancy Hydronamic.
Our environmental policy and objectives target those areas where we can create the most added value: investment in and deployment of an environmentally friendly fleet consisting of 1,000 units, providing environmentally friendly working methods and techniques and using our eco-engineering expertise on our projects and contracts.
A green solution
In developing our substructure solution we have made sustainability an integral part of our decision-making process.
The design of our substructure incorporates a high-level of recycled locally sourced materials.
During installation, we maximise the use of our own in-house fleet. A benefit of our design is that there is no requirement for piling operations, minimising noise disturbance to marine mammals.
Throughout the development process we have considered the whole life impact of our solution and ensured that the substructure can be removed from the seabed and recycled when it is no longer required.
We are focused on developing our local and national supply chain. We will encourage competition to get best possible value, while implementing a skills development programme that will promote apprenticeships and provide training and development for our employees.
