Our approach to public policy and government

We engage with a wide range of organisations involved in shaping public debate and policy. We work directly with central and local government and via trade and professional organisations. We seek to be involved in issues specific to the construction industry, as well as wider matters that affect the environment in which we operate. This helps us deliver our purpose of building for a better society.

Public affairs

Our UK president and CEO, Mike Putnam, is chair of the Green Construction Board and a member of the Construction Leadership Council. Mike's is a leading industry voice. He helps shape the future of the UK's construction industry and promotes the role of green construction and sustainability.

Through Mike's work with the Green Construction Board, Skanska played a pivotal role in developing the Construction 2025 strategy for the UK. This joint public and private-sector initiative sets long-term goals for the industry.

Government policy

We have worked closely with the Department for Education and Department for Business Innovation and Skills on shaping policy for the apprenticeship levy and the skills plan.

Our environment team helped develop international green building policy. Our contribution to the Health, Well-being and Productivity in Offices report, demonstrates our commitment to sustainability. This report was delivered by the World Green Building Council.
