Skanska preferred bidder for multi-million pound MoD Prime Contract

Skanska has been appointed preferred bidder by the Ministry of Defence (MOD)for a £120 million facility at RAF Wyton, Cambridgeshire supporting part of the Defence Intelligence Modernisation Programme. The scheme, will be carried out under Defence Estate’s (DE) prime contracting initiative and will involve both design and construction work.

Skanska will now work with its client and key members of the supply chain to develop the scheme. Formal award of the scheme is expected to be announced at the end of this year with work likely to begin in early 2009 and completion set for 2011.

By combining its in-house expertise in construction, mechanical and electrical engineering, facilities management and design of IT services for the facility, the company was able to offer the MOD an integrated Skanska solution.

Under the contract, Skanska, will be the prime contractor and will have single point responsibility for managing its supply chain, including project consultants, throughout the project.
