Construction Progress Update 22nd June 2009...

We are now 103 weeks into the 189-week construction phase of the project, and the Works remain “on programme”.

On all SKANSKA sites our target is ZERO ACCIDENTS – on the Heron Tower Project we are working hard to achieve this. After two years of demolition and new construction work our overall Safety Statistics (RIDDOR classification) are as follows:

  • 22 minor accidents
  • 1 reportable
  • 7.5 lost days out of 700,000 man hours worked

Every incident which could affect the health and safety of anyone on site or the general public is investigated and recommendations for improvement are implemented so that we all benefit from lessons learned. The site team is actively encouraged to report every ‘near miss’ incident so that corrective action can be taken and the highest possible standards of safety are maintained.

The 40-tonne hydraulic excavator with a specially adapted telescopic grab has now been demobilised – after removing about 20,000 cubic metres of earth and rubble in preparation for the new basement construction.
