Heron Tower key facts
The Heron Tower development will provide 42,873 square metres of nett internal space providing office accommodation for 4300 staff and comprises:
- Three basement levels
- Three concourse levels incorporating entrance foyers and retail areas
- 36 storeys of offices rising from levels 2 to 37
- Levels 38-40 will include a public restaurant, bar and conference facilities.
- Levels 41-46 - six levels of plant
- Creation of a new pedestrian piazza in Houndsditch Street
- Two high-speed double-decker glass lifts will give dedicated access from Bishopsgate to Heron Tower's restaurant facilities @ level 39.
The Architects Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF) have designed Heron Tower as an innovative building which responds well to it's urban context, where the form of the building has been carefully articulated to create interesting views in the London City Skyline.
The entrance foyers and retail areas within the concourse levels together with the new pedestrian piazza in Houndsditch Street will add a vibrant new dimension to the surrounding street scene and enhance the Public Domain within the local neighbourhood.
Sustainability is a key element in the buildings design, with each elevation responding to its orientation. The Southern elevation incorporates Photovoltaic glass, cooled by recycled air to reduce energy consumption.
The steel structure is clad in stainless steel curtain walling incorporating natural ventilation to the east and west facades.
The computer controlled ''Double-Decker'' lift system will provide an excellent service to the 4,300 staff that will work in this iconic building.
The office facilities is arranged around a north facing atrium where the concept of stacked three-storey villages provides an excellent working environment with good flexibility for a variety of smaller companies or larger tenants to have their own unique identity within this new landmark city tower.
