Highways maintenance – improving the UK’s road network

We have a history of building, maintaining and operating roads and highways, forming solid working relationships with our clients over many years. We have been responsible for roads throughout the UK, including the M25.

Highways maintenance and improvement

We can demonstrate our expertise in highways maintenance and highways improvement, as well as construction. With this amount of understanding across different markets we bring a wealth of knowledge, to help our clients reduce costs and meet government’s savings targets and deliver safer journeys for road users.

We also bring the benefits of our expertise in sustainable construction and maintenance to the highways sector. In 2011 we were named UK’s greenest company, by The Sunday Times.

Building better roads

Our flagship contract is the M25 improvement programme, one of the world's busiest motorways. This mega infrastructure project, working in joint venture with Balfour Beatty, was completed in time for the 2012 Olympic Games with minimal traffic disruption.

The team delivered the £1 billion widening project several weeks early – along with significant savings, shared with Highways England.

The project team is now delivering a £321 million upgrade to the M25.

Keeping the network moving

Around four million customers rely on the UK network every day, so making sure it is working properly is a constant challenge.

We understand these challenges and have put measures in place to ensure road users are informed and have safe and reliable journeys.

Our comprehensive highways maintenance service includes:

  • planned and reactive maintenance
  • highway improvement schemes
  • winter maintenance
  • emergency response and horticulture management

Across the UK, we currently maintain over 10,500 miles of carriageways, 5,500 miles of footways and 9,000 structures.

We have more than 30 years’ experience of maintaining highways across the UK and are able to draw on the company’s extensive global capability. Teams work around the clock, every day of the year, providing anything from road maintenance to landscaping services.
