Meet our people – Rachael

Rachael joined Skanska as a clinical waste manager on our hospital contracts, focusing on the segregation and disposal of clinical waste. In doing so, she developed a programme that is now saving hundreds of thousands of pounds on waste management, every year, for hospitals, like Barts and the Royal London.

Meet Rachael

Different costs are attached to different waste and disposal methods. By working with hospitals, and introducing waste management plans, she has helped change behaviour and highlight the value of effective waste management. This alone has created significant savings; savings that can be spent on other areas of healthcare.

“I feel empowered to make a difference, and I’m given the support to do so,” Rachael explains. Helping create these savings means more money can be spent on frontline care for patients, where it’s needed most.

“To work for an organisation where I can use my skills and experience to benefit others is completely aligned to my personal values,” she adds.

Rachael is now a sustainability manager, leading on both environment and waste services.
