Skanska continues to act on its pledge to become net-zero carbon by 2045, with the issue of a new framework agreement which will see it cut carbon (CO2e) and harmful air emissions by using low emission, high performance fuel Green D+, a hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) fuel to power all site plant and equipment.
The framework agreement which extends to Skanska’s supply chain partners, will see Green Biofuels Ltd supply Green D+, which is certified under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification scheme and exclusively generated from waste or secondary renewal source material. This will equate to a 90% saving in CO2e and an 85% reduction in other emission particulates.
Whilst new electric and hydrogen substitutes are in development, construction machinery requires significant power; however, this technology is not currently available at the scale and pace needed for significant construction operations, undertaken by Skanska.
The decision to use Green D+ is a strategic step-change approach that acts on significantly reducing emissions associated with plant and equipment, for the immediate term.
