Skanska Construction has today announced the formation of Skanska Integrated Projects to handle its growing PPP/PFI portfolio and the appointment of a new managing director for Skanska UK Building.
Skanska Integrated Projects will undertake all Skanska’s PFI/PPP work in the building sector as well as its framework contracts where the product can be continuously developed over a range of projects. In particular the company will target the Health, Custodial, Education and Defence markets where it already has an established presence.
Managing director of the new business will be Simon Hipperson who joins the company on September 30. He also joins the board of Skanska UK and will report directly to David Fison, Chief Executive of Skanska Construction Group. Simon brings with him a wealth of experience in the PFI/PPP market having worked on major schemes for both Mace and Carillion. Most recently he was managing director of Amey Programme Management.
Taking over as managing director of Skanska UK Building is Dave Shadwell, currently director responsible for the company’s major projects and its expanding fit out division, Kontor Skanska. Dave also joins the Skanska UK board, reporting to David Fison.
Dave Shadwell is one of the company’s most experienced building directors and has been involved with many of the company’s largest projects including two of London’s most innovative buildings currently under construction - the Swiss Re tower and Moor House. Dave’s experience in building projects is extensive and he has particular skills of working in inner city environments having spent most of his early career on London based contracts.
In announcing the appointments David Fison, said: “With the demands of such major building projects as the Foster-designed developments and the imminent start up of the two major new PFI hospital contracts in Coventry and Derby, jointly worth over £550 million, we needed to establish separate businesses to concentrate on the special demands of these very different types of customers.
“Skanska Integrated Projects will focus on the whole needs of our PFI/PPP style customers, putting together integrated teams to carry out these privately funded schemes from inception to construction and through to the management of the facility. Skanska UK Building will continue to work in the more traditional building market in which it holds a leading position, particularly in London and the South East. Aligning these companies more closely to their core skills will enable them to get closer to their customers.
“I look forward to working with Simon and Dave to grow both businesses.”
