Kvaerner Cementation Foundations (KCF) has been awarded contracts at two key development sites in London, worth together over £500,000.
In the West End, Kvaerner Construction’s ground engineering specialists are installing CFA piling for a new office block at Manchester Square on behalf of groundwork contractor PC Harrington.
The development, on the site of the former EMI offices where the Beatles first signed their recording contract, was also the location of the world-famous album-cover photos of the Fab Four looking down from a high balcony.
KCF’s contract involves constructing a basement retaining wall up to 11 metres deep, installing 120 interlocking 600 mm secant piles, plus a further 27 to form a king post wall. A guide-wall trench was prepared to ensure pinpoint accuracy, as the new secant piles are being integrated with existing piles from the original EMI building.
Secondly, near the Angel, work is progressing on a £350,000 award from main contractor Bowmer & Kirkland for rotary bored piling on a residential and commercial scheme for Groveworld – Grove Manor Homes at the northern end of Goswell road. Here, 340 bearing piles of 500 and 600 mm diameter are being installed, plus 290 piles of 600 mm to form a contiguous piled wall, as part of a six-storey apartment complex over a basement Leisure Centre.
