South East Electricity Substation Alliance (SEESA)
In 2006 Skanska, working in joint venture, was awarded a contract for upgrading National Grid’s electricity transmission network across south-east England.
The South East Electricity Substation Alliance (SEESA), comprising Skanska, Alstom and Mott MacDonald joint venture, along with National Grid, is responsible for all aspects of the project. This includes the programme management, design, construction and commissioning of 400Kv and 132Kv substations.
- Increasing capacity of substations in the south east to ensure a safe and secure supply for future generations
- A successful alliance delivering efficiency savings through collaborative planning
London Power Tunnels
Skanska, in joint venture with Costain, constructed 16 shafts and 33km of cable tunnels for National Grid through the heart of London.
Under the contract, the team was responsible for the construction of new high voltage electricity cable tunnel between Hackney and Willesden (via Kensal Green) and Kensal Green and Wimbledon. The works included the development of access shafts and head houses for electrical equipment.
The Costain Skanska joint venture is also addressing third parties concerns, like the Environment Agency and Thames Water, regarding the impact of the construction and presence of tunnels and shafts on groundwater source protection zones.
