  • Thames Water AMP 6 alliance – eight2o

Skanska joined MWH and Balfour Beatty (SMB) in a joint venture as design and build partner for Thames Water’s £2billion AMP6 (Asset Management Plan) eight2o alliance.

The SMB joint venture brought together extensive experience and skills, including design services and construction expertise. The joint venture’s combined track record of assured delivery across multiple sectors supported delivery of complex projects in London and the unique challenges of working in the capital.

SMB’s capability to work on both infrastructure and non-infrastructure water assets, across clean and waste-water networks, was vital to the alliance.

Our work helped meet a critical national need to increase water infrastructure capacity, while improving customer service and lowering costs for people living in London and the Thames Valley.

Key projects included:

  • Upgrades to the Coppermills Water Treatment Works – the largest water treatment works in North London, supplying around four million Londoners
  • Waterworks Bridge, Stratford – taking sewage from 350 square miles of drains across King’s Cross, Hammersmith, Kensington and Fulham to the Beckton Treatment Works
  • The team also received widespread industry recognition for its innovative no-dig solution to upgrade the King’s Scholars’ Pond sewer buried two metres below the junction of Baker Street and Marylebone Road, above the London Underground’s Hammersmith & City line.

Using its industry experience, SMB created an injury-free environment, surpassing an incredible 12-million-man hours of safe working, while driving out waste and promoting a sustainable procurement strategy that focused on whole-life costing.
