Empowering engineers of the future

Investment in large and mega infrastructure projects provides an amazing opportunity for people to build a career in construction. Our aim is to engage people, particularly those from under-represented or disadvantaged groups, in the opportunities available.

Working together with our joint venture and supply chain partners, we're supporting work experience and curriculum focused activities in schools that ensure people from local communities along the route are well placed to benefit from opportunities that the HS2 project creates over the next two decades.

We’re supporting HS2 in their commitment to invest in young people, upskill its workforce and ensure the UK has a pipeline of future talent to deliver Europe’s biggest engineering project.

Together with our supply chain working on our Skanska Costain STRABAG joint venture, we’re striving to provide over 450 apprenticeship opportunities for young people interested in working on HS2.

During Covid-19, we continued to support school students in developing STEM skills through virtual work experience.

Our Skanska Costain STRABAG joint venture adapted their work experience programme to be delivered virtually so that students interested in developing their STEM skills don’t miss out on valuable work experience because of the Coronavirus restrictions.

In partnership with Women Returners and STEM Returners, we’re working with the local communities to support individuals who are looking to re-enter employment.

Our Skanska Costain STRABAG joint venture has two careers-focused initiatives designed to actively engage with and support the individuals who have taken a career break back into work.
