Just a year after construction began on the Coventry New Hospitals Project, Skanska has handed over the sixth completed building, the eye-catching Clinical Sciences Building on time.
Skanska worked closely with the Trust and Warwick University to design the Clinical Sciences Building, which houses lecture theatres with integrated broadcast facilities, allowing students at other teaching facilities to attend the lectures via a video link.
The Acute Hospital operating theatres also have video cameras installed, enabling operations to be viewed by students in the Clinical Sciences Building, demonstrating the hospital’s skills as a teaching facility as well as a centre of clinical excellence.
Skanska has now handed over six phases of the state-of-the-art 1,212-bed acute hospital development, the Computer Networks Building, Crèche, Trust Administration, Oncology Day Centre and Centre for Reproductive Medicine all having been handed over to the NHS Trusts, on time, prior to this completion. The speed at which the buildings are being constructed and handed over has allowed the Trust to decant services from the existing Walsgrave Hospital, allowing further development to progress.
Completion work now continues on the Centre for Sterile Services Department, ready for hand over before Christmas.
