Water

Skanska has more than 20 years’ experience in the water sector, delivering a wide range of complex projects that create capacity and resilience in a changing climate.

We work in collaborative partnerships to deliver high performing and resilient water assets for homes and businesses. We also deliver projects that ensure the safe treatment and disposal of waste-water.

Our end-to-end service, from design, development and delivery to customer handover includes water treatment and water recycling upgrades, improvements and new builds.

We have delivered projects in locations across the UK, from the beautiful but remote Breacon Beacons where we delivered the Upper Neuadd reservoir dam stability project, upgrades to the Coppermills Water Treatment Works supplying around four million Londoners as well as multiple projects for Anglian Water through the @One Alliance.

Our expert teams work closely with our customers to ensure that the projects we deliver meet society’s needs. This includes the drive for net-zero carbon and leaving a lasting legacy for people in the communities where we work, through training and employment opportunities.

Water treatment

Drawing on our capabilities in engineering, civils design, installation and commissioning, we’re able to deliver projects of all kinds. For example, we’re experienced in installing pipelines and wind turbines, refurbishing dams and constructing pumping stations and treatment works.

Our innovative approach uses the latest technologies, such as 5DBIM, drone assessments and laser scanning. By working closely with our customers, partners and supply-chain we drive efficiencies, improve safety, reduce carbon emissions and deliver cost benefits.

Our approach to net zero carbon

We are working towards net zero carbon in everything we do. We were the first UK contractor to successfully achieve PAS2080 certification and have set our target to achieve net zero carbon on our full emissions, including our supply chain, by 2045.

Working closely with our customers, we are innovating, developing new ways of working and sharing expertise to support the industry’s journey to net-zero carbon.

The Anglian Water @one Alliance, in which we have been a partner for some 20 years, has been a trailblazer for this.

The collaborative contracting model has helped support a carbon emissions reduction of 64%, against a 2010 baseline, and we’re on target to hit 70% by 2025. That’s significant progress towards achieving Anglian Water’s net zero carbon by 2030 target.

Our approach to efficiency

To us, efficiency goes well beyond the operational efficiency built into all our standard operating practices. It includes the in-house team providing technical standards and testing and commissioning to BS7671 standards.

Our stance on environmental efficiency means we deliver projects with local communities and biodiversity at heart. That could be by minimising transport movements, reducing or reusing waste on site or by introducing our latest carbon saving innovations.

Through our work on the @one Alliance, we’ve embedded a more standardised approach to delivery, from site set up to product specification such as for pipes and tanks. By repeating and building on what works, through a continuous improvement mindset, we have cut waste, carbon and costs.
