Waste solution wins facilities management award

Press release 15/10/2015 15:00 CET

Skanska’s facilities management team picked up the New Product or Service of the Year award at the 2015 British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) awards.

Members of the Skanska team collected the award together with Fiona Daly (Head of Sustainability at Barts Health NHS Trust), Julie Kortens (Chairman of BIFM) and Simon Evans (comedian and host)

The team won the accolade for its health and care waste solution. It was also shortlisted in the Impact on Sustainability category.

In response to increasing demand from the NHS for a managed clinical and non-clinical waste management service, Skanska has developed an innovative waste management solution. Combined with a behavioural change programme, the solution has saved the NHS more than £1.5 million over the last three and a half years. It has also lead to increased compliance with government waste standards and improved patient care.

Skanska Managing Director Katy Dowding said: “Winning this award is a fantastic achievement. It’s great to see our waste management service being recognised at this prestigious industry event. We look forward to continuing our work with Barts Health NHS Trust in order to deliver further improvements and savings.”

The awards ceremony, attended by over 1,300 people, took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel on 12 October.
