Leaving a lasting legacy

Through our work on HS2, we are engaging and supporting local people with the aim of leaving a lasting legacy that benefits communities for generations to come.

We are part of the social legacy programme Empowering Communities.  Through our Costain Skanska and Skanska Costain STRABAG joint ventures, we are working with HS2, Network Rail, the Mace Dragados JV and Arup on long-term community projects. These are tackling worklessness and homelessness, providing support for local young people, businesses and community projects across the HS2 route into London.

This 10-year legacy partnership will help boost local economic growth, job opportunities and community cohesion, ensuring that these areas benefit long after the project has completed.

Tackling homelessness

Through Empowering Communities we work with our partners and local charities to transform the lives of people experiencing homelessness.

The programme aims to create jobs for those experiencing worklessness and homelessness and supports projects to help local communities to respond to homelessness in their local areas.

Challenging race inequality

We’re striving to eradicate race inequality at work and combine our efforts to create inclusive workplaces by working with various employee networks and partners across the industry.

As part of this commitment, Skanska is part of the Race Cross-Sector Collaboration Group which was established to share best practice and challenge major industry players and their supply chain to become more racially inclusive.
