Skanska supports launch of new T levels

Press release 18/10/2017 13:00 CET

New technical qualifications will begin in 2020

Skanska will support the Design, Surveying and Planning Panel within the Construction route.

Skanska is supporting the introduction of a new technical qualification in Construction that will be launched in 2020.

T levels, which are equivalent to A levels, are part of an education shake-up to help bridge the technical skills gap and deliver home-grown talent post-Brexit. The new qualifications are in Digital, Education and Childcare, along with Construction. Skanska is part of a newly appointed panel comprising industry professionals and employers – including EDF, Rolls Royce, Fujitsu and Morgan Sindall – working to ensure the qualifications have real credibility.

Mark Lawton, Chief engineering Surveyor in Civils is part of the Design, Surveying and Planning Panel within the Construction route. He said:

“T levels are an exciting step forward to recognising the skills needed for a range of technical roles, their importance in industry and the wider impact they have on society. For example, geospatial surveying is used daily, however, it’s not recognised or respected for the latest technical training required to be delivered by a fast-moving digital design world. My aim is to ensure that what is taught is relevant for tomorrow and not just for today. It’s great that Skanska can help lead this.”
