Skanska UK renews commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

At a ceremony held on 1 May 2025 in one of the Historic Rooms where Skanska’s facilities management team hold the hard services FM contract, members of Skanska’s ex-military employee network including Reservists and Adult Cadet Force Volunteers joined senior members of Skanska and Major General Sarah Johansen MBE to re-sign the Covenant.

Skanska first signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2011, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community. Skanska was awarded the Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award in 2017 and successfully revalidated and retained Gold status in 2022. The latest signing updates Skanska’s pledges, reaffirming our dedication to the defence community.

Speaking about the ceremony, Major General Sarah Johansen MBE, representing the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said:

“I was immensely proud to represent the MoD today and welcome Skanska to Main Building as they re-signed the Armed Forces Covenant. Skanska has played a vital role in supporting our Reservists and Service Leavers since first signing the Covenant in 2011 and we are proud to continue this wonderful partnership.

“Skanska’s advocacy and support of service personnel has had a lasting impact, and it was fabulous to meet the Skanska team and hear about their experiences. Thank you.”

Adam McDonald, Chief Commercial Officer and Executive Vice President at Skanska added:

“I am really proud that once again we are able to demonstrate our commitment to supporting the armed forces community. Skanska’s values align closely with those in the Armed Forces Covenant, and I know this makes our business attractive to those people seeking a career after service in the military. It was a real pleasure to join this event at MoD Main Building to signal our steadfast support.”

This re-signing ceremony marks another milestone in Skanska’s ongoing commitment to honouring and supporting those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces.

In addition, Skanska continues to support Reservists and Adult Cadet Force Volunteers, enabling them to continue their valuable roles. Since 2020, the Reserve Policy has included Cadet Force Volunteers, with Skanska offering an additional 15 days of paid leave annually for both Reservists and Cadet Force Volunteers to attend training. The ceremony welcomed some of these dedicated personnel, showcasing their importance to Skanska.

Skanska also continues its partnership with Buildforce, providing mentoring, meaningful work experience, and interview opportunities for Buildforce candidates seeking roles within the company. Additionally, Skanska supports veterans and service families through participation in Op ASCEND, an initiative by the Office for Veterans Affairs connecting employers with experienced, work-ready individuals from the Armed Forces community.
