Dale takes over from Shaun McCarthy OBE, who co-founded the School in 2012 and has chaired the organisation since its launch. Shaun will now move into a roaming ambassador role, continuing to support the School’s work in the UK and internationally.
Dale has over 25 years’ experience in the construction industry, across both building and civil engineering sectors. At Skanska, he is responsible for strategic procurement and sustainable supply chain development across the UK business.
He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS), Chair of the Building Confidence supply chain assurance programme, and a regular industry speaker on sustainable procurement; as well as being involved with the School’s leadership team since 2013.
“I’m pleased to be taking on the role of Chair at what is an important time for the School and the wider industry,” said Dale. “Our sector continues to face significant sustainability challenges, and the School plays a key role in helping organisations and supply chains to respond. I look forward to supporting its continued growth and impact.”
Shaun McCarthy OBE will remain actively involved, with a focus on international development through Action Sustainability CIC, a social enterprise company, that will work alongside the School.
“It has been a privilege to Chair the School for over a decade,” said Shaun. “We’ve built something unique – an industry-led collaboration delivering real value. Dale’s experience and leadership make him the right choice to take this forward. I’m proud to continue supporting the team in a new capacity.”
Ian Heptonstall, Co-founder and director of the School, added: “Dale brings a strong industry perspective and a collaborative approach, having chaired several high-profile sector groups. Chair of the Board is an important role in any organisation, but in the unique collaboration of 230 Partner organisations that is the Supply Chain Sustainability School, the role is pivotal as we drive consensus and tackle some of the major challenges that the industry has.”
