Skanska wins Esri UK Customer Success Award

Press release 23/05/2025 12:02 CET
For demonstrating leadership and innovation in the geospatial sector

Skanska’s innovative geospatial approach to construction sequencing has won an Esri UK Customer Success Award at the prestigious Esri UK Annual Conference in London, one of the UK’s largest geospatial industry events with over 3,000 delegates. Recognising organisations who are demonstrating leadership in the geospatial sector, Skanska won the Collaborative Working category.

Known as Skanska GeoPlan, our zero-cost collaborative planning environment improves understanding of project constraints, risks and logistical challenges during programme development, which leads to faster onboarding of teams, improved project delivery and cost savings. This digital solution is a communication tool which allows non-planners to engage and take ownership of the programme.

Skanska GeoPlan is currently used on complex projects in the highways, rail, water and energy sectors. On one project, Skanska GeoPlan saved around 7,000 hours. One example is helping new starters get up to speed on project methodology which led to significant time savings and improved understanding.

Claire Lepoutre, Technical Services Director in Skanska’s infrastructure business, said: “Combining the ‘what’, ‘when’ and ‘where’, Skanska GeoPlan engages delivery teams resulting in improved project delivery. The innovative integration showcases potential for wider industry application, setting a new standard in project management with significant time and cost savings. We are extremely proud to win this award which is testament to our industry-leading work using Esri software.”

Skanska GeoPlan modernises the traditional manual, paper-based approach by eliminating the constraints associated with static phasing diagrams. Instead of being limited to the detail that fits on an A3 piece of paper, project teams can visualise the entire construction sequence collaboratively in a geospatial setting. This adaptability allows for varying levels of sequencing and time – from work zones across a large project over several years to hour-by-hour specific activities in smaller sections.

Craig Evenden, Head of Architecture, Engineering and Construction at Esri UK commented: “Skanska GeoPlan is a stand-out example of enhancing efficiency through geospatial technology on major infrastructure projects. Addressing the challenge of timely communication of project programmes and methodologies to various stakeholders, it offers significant value to clients.”
