Skanska/Mill Group preferred bidder for £27 million schools PFI in London

Press release 19/09/2003 00:00 CET

A consortium comprising Skanska and Mill Group has been appointed preferred bidder on a 25-year, £27 million PFI project to design, build, fund and operate two secondary schools for the London Borough of Bexley.

The scheme in southeast London will see Skanska design and build a 2100-place school in Bexleyheath, one of the biggest in the country, and a 1500-place school in Welling. Caxton Integrated Services will carry out post-construction FM on behalf of the consortium.

The consortium, called Investors in the Community (Bexley Schools Ltd), aims to complete financial close with the London Borough of Bexley by the end of the year, with construction starting early in 2004 for completion by the start of the summer term in 2005.

Skanska and the Mill Group are the equity providers and this deal sees the continuation of this relationship. It follows the recent construction and handover of four schools in east London and increases Skanska’s portfolio of PFI projects, which includes the recent award of the £333 million design and construction contract for the new Derby Hospital.
