CHESTERFIELD RETAIL DEVELOPMENT LAUNCHED

Press release 29/01/1999 00:00 CET

Work on a multi-million pound retail development in Chesterfield being built by Kvaerner Construction has been officially started by the town’s mayor.

Councillor Michael Fanshawe performed the ground-breaking ceremony in a digger to launch £14.5 million construction of the development for clients Centros Miller Ltd and Chesterfield Borough Council.

The new development will include four major shop units as well as 31 retail units with a multi-storey car park for 400 vehicles. A central community square will also be built where public events will be held. Construction work on site is expected to be completed for Easter 2000.

Kvaerner Construction’s contract follows the recent completion of the similar £15 million Land of the Prince Bishops retail development in Durham. Many of Kvaerner Construction’s team which completed this major complex will now be working in Chesterfield.
