£180M housing double for Gammon Construction

Press release 05/04/2000 00:00 CET

Kvaerner Construction’s Hong Kong-based company, Gammon Construction, has secured two major housing development contracts with a combined value of more than £180 million to construct residential towers, a school and commercial areas.

These establish Gammon as a market leader in the Hong Kong housing sector where it is already well established with seven projects worth more than £240 million currently ongoing.

Working for the Hong Kong Housing Authority in a £72.2 million (HK$918.4m) contract, Gammon is to build a 19-storey housing block on a podium; an eight-storey, 30-classroom primary school; a six-storey commercial centre with car parks - also built on a podium; and associated footbridges and external landscaping. The project, in Po Lam Road, Kowloon, started this month and is due to be completed in two years time.

In a second contract at Tseung Kwan O, Gammon is a management contractor in a 50/50 joint venture with Sanfield. The deal, worth more than £108 million (HK$1.2billion), is with a Sun Hung Kai, Swire Properties and Shiu Wing Steel joint venture. The two-year scheme started this month and includes the construction of a four-storey podium with a clubhouse and car park that will serve four new 48-storey residential towers.
