RAIL EMBANKMENT STABILISATION WORK FOR KVAERNER

Press release 23/02/1999 00:00 CET

Kvaerner Cementation Foundations has secured a full design and construct contract with London Underground for a £1.3 million embankment stabilisation project on the Metropolitan Line in Amersham.

Kvaerner Construction’s specialist ground engineering company is due to complete 270 metres of embankment stabilisation by the end of April. It will use a double line of bored pile walls, together with a zone of toe weighting placed below the lower wall of the embankment.

Cementation Foundations has also appointed Tom Fitch (MICE) as its new operations manager (rail) to take responsibility for all of the company’s rail-related earth structure remediation work. This is in response to growing acknowledgement within the rail industry of the benefits of managing embankments and cuttings proactively to improve safety; cut maintenance costs; eliminate temporary speed restrictions; and improve ride-quality for train services.
