In 2015, 420 primary school children in the Bristol area will start the new school year in a brand new, sustainable school.
Bristol City Council has contracted Skanska to design, build and fit out the £5.5 million Oasis Academy Marksbury Road primary school. The 2,200m2 school building will include a 60-place special educational needs provision, and extensive earthworks on the sloping site will create new playground space, habitat areas and a multi-use games area.
The delivery team will work alongside the Homes and Community Agency to redevelop a brownfield site, as part of the South Bristol Gateway regeneration project.
Low-carbon construction methods and renewable technologies will help the building to achieve the BRE Environment Assessment Method (BREEAM) ‘Excellent’ rating.
Mike Carter, operations manager for Skanska, said: “The new school is part of an exciting programme of development for Bristol and the south west region. It’s a great addition to the area’s educational facilities and a further example of our construction expertise.”
On completion, the school will be operated by Oasis Community Learning.
