Skanska Construction has handed over £20,000 cheques to the two charities it is supporting - The Hope House Hospice and the Lighthouse Club - following a year-long fundraising effort.
With events ranging from a company-wide fun day which raised £11,000 alone, to a small internal quiz making £30, employees from all over the company have been gladly sacrificing their spare time in aid of the two good causes.
Hope House is a children’s hospice based in Oswestry, Shropshire. The £20,000 donated by Skanska will fund a highly-trained and specialist nurse for a whole year to support families unable to attend the hospice’s main building.
The hospice, which was built in the mid 1990s by Skanska Construction, has more than 200 children from north and mid Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire registered as patients at any one time.
The construction industry’s benevolent fund, the Lighthouse Club, was also presented with £20,000 at its annual dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
