KVAERNER CONSTRUCTION WINS £127M JOBS

Kvaerner Construction has won major contracts in London and Hong Kong with a combined value of more than £127 million.

Working for the British Land Company PLC at Regents Place, London, the company will construct a new seven storey office block, refurbish two floors of the adjacent Euston Tower and carry our associated landscaping.

Following demolition of an existing building, Kvaerner Construction will build a high-quality 300,000 square foot reinforced concrete structure. It will also fit-out the building with carpeting, partitions and IT facilities for the headquarters of Abbey National. Internally there will be glass lifts and an atrium which will run the length of the building.

At Euston Tower, Kvaerner Construction’s deal includes the demolition, structural alterations and recladding of the ground and first floors. The first floor will also be fully fitted out while on the ground floor Kvaerner will construct the shell and core of four retail units.

In Hong Kong Kvaerner Construction’s associate company, Gammon Construction, has been awarded a £62.5 million contract to build five new residential tower blocks. Awarded by the Hong Kong Housing Authority, the project is phase two of the redevelopment of a former residential area at the Tsz Man Estate in Tsz Wan Shan, Kowloon.

The project includes the building of five 41-storey blocks providing 2,000 homes, a single storey estate management office and a kindergarten building. All associated landscaping and drainage works as well as the construction of a footbridge and retaining wall are included in the contract which is due for completion during the summer of 2001.
