£43M HONG KONG BUILDING CONTRACT FOR KVAERNER

Press release 18/02/1998 00:00 CET

Kvaerner Construction’s Hong Kong based associate, Gammon Construction, has been awarded a £43.3 million (HK$548 million) contract by Man Hing Hong Land Investment Co. for the redevelopment of one of their most prestigious locations in Central Hong Kong -the site of the Man Yee Building constructed in the 1950’s.

The project involves the construction of a high quality 31-storey office tower on a four-level retail podium and a three-level basement car park. Construction work has already begun and is scheduled for completion in July 1999.

The building’s exterior will be a combination of metal and granite cladding, aluminium curtain walls, ceramic tiling and glass. Construction involves traditional bottom-up basement reinforcement concrete and the superstructure will be of reinforced concrete.

The new building will be fully equipped with advanced M&E systems. Office floors will be decorated and will feature raised flooring and suspended ceiling systems, providing tenants with high-quality finishings and the greatest possible flexibility.

The key consultants are Rocco Design Ltd as the architect, C.M. Wong & associates as the engineer, Associated Consulting Engineers as the M&E engineer and Levett & Bailey as the quantity surveyor.

The Man Yee Building redevelopment will continue Gammon’s track record in Hong Kong’s Central Business District, which includes Exchange Square, the redevelopment of 9 Queen’s Road Central and the recently completed Central Tower.
