Skanska to construct Heron Tower

Skanska today has been awarded the contract to construct Heron Tower by the trustees of the Heron Tower Property Unit Trust. Located on an island site on Bishopsgate, when complete, Heron Tower will be one of the tallest towers in the City of London.

Demolition of the existing buildings is already underway, with the main construction works starting in January 2008, commencing with enabling works in readiness for the main piling operations which will start in the spring of 2008. This will be followed by construction of the both the sub-structure and super-structure works in parallel, commonly referred to as ‘Top Down’ construction. The project is scheduled for completion during the first quarter of 2011.

Skanska is providing a Construction Business Stream bid, which incorporates expertise from all of its operating units:- mechanical, electrical, plumbing and IT services, piling, steel decking, suspended ceilings and engineering resources. They bring with them the experience of constructing other London landmarks which offers to the client a total construction and building services solution.

The new Heron Tower development at 110 Bishopsgate in the City of London, heralds a new era in high-rise commercial developments and is one of the first of a new wave of landmark towers, to grace and enhance the City skyline.

Designed by renowned architects Kohn Pederson Fox, Heron Tower is a multi-occupied building which will provide world class office space, setting the standards for offices of the future.

When complete, Heron Tower’s 46 storey’s rising to a height of over 202 metres, will provide unrivalled panoramic views over London. At the top of the building sits an elegant mast giving an overall height of 242 metres.
