Skanska to upgrade Network Rail’s telcoms network.

Press release 20/06/2003 00:00 CET

The turnkey abilities of Skanska’s telecommunications infrastructure business Skanska Networks has helped it win a design and build contract worth circa £18m from Network Rail to upgrade its national telecommunications network across north Lincolnshire.

Working alongside Skanska’s civil engineering business, the company’s turnkey service includes detailed survey and design, enabling works, cable laying, testing and commissioning of the network, which runs parallel to the track. Work starts immediately and will take approximately one year to complete.

Skanska Networks is an established player in providing specialist infrastructure services to the telecommunications industry. It has a long-term relationship with BT that includes term contracts for maintaining and upgrading underground and overhead infrastructure in Yorkshire, Humberside and the Thames Valley region.

Other clients include Orange and Crown Castle in the public service mobile phone arena and O², where Skanska Networks is contributing to the roll-out of the Airwave Project to provide an upgraded communications network for the emergency services.
