KVAERNER CONSTRUCTION WINS U.S. MEDICAL JOB

Sick children in Florida are set to receive improved treatment in the future thanks to an £8 million contract Kvaerner Construction has just secured.

Kvaerner Construction Inc. Kvaerner Construction’s Florida-based subsidiary, will renovate and extend Shriners Hospital for Children which is based on the University of South Florida’s site in Tampa.

New single and two-storey buildings housing patient rooms, family guest rooms, a research laboratory and a prosthetics laboratory will all be connected to the existing hospital. Renovation of the existing hospital will also take place.

The work, the first major changes made to the hospital since it was built 14 years ago, starts in January next year and will be completed in January 2002.

Kvaerner Construction has recently secured more work in America including a £13 million contract at the Largo Medical Centre in Florida and a £6 million deal at the Polk County Science Building of Florida Southern College.

At the Polk County Science Building the work includes the renovation and restoration of a historic landmark laboratory building designed by the world renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
