Kvaerner Construction, which is being purchased by Skanska, has clinched two contracts for its growing motorway communications team on the M1 in Northamptonshire and Leicestershire worth more than £18 million.
The schemes include upgrading the national motorway communications system on the M1and on the adjoining M45, M6 and M69 motorways and take to six the number of similar schemes the company has secured with the Highways Agency in less than four years.
In a £7.8 million project in Leicestershire, Kvaerner Construction will improve cabling and driver information signs on existing gantries. This scheme is due for completion in June next year.
A second similar contract worth £10.8 million is soon to start in Northamptonshire. As well as improvements to cabling and signs, this project includes the installation of CCTV cameras and the construction and fitting out of two transmission stations. Starting in September, the scheme is due for completion in Spring 2002.
These contracts follow similar schemes completed by Kvaerner Construction’s motorway communications team on M1/A1 Link Road in Leeds; the M62, M18 and M180 in Yorkshire; the M6, M61 and M55 in Lancashire; and on the M62, M606 and M1 also in Yorkshire.
Kvaerner Construction’s UK Civils division has won contracts totalling almost £40 million in the last two weeks. Last week it announced a £20 million deal with the MoD to build a Remote Ammunitioning Facility Tamar (RAFT) loading jetty in Plymouth.
