Skanska’s combined building and M&E expertise secures £67.5 million London contract

Press release 01/10/2003 00:00 CET

Skanska’s combined use of its building and M&E expertise has helped secure a £67.5 million landmark contract in Southwark to design and construct a 12-storey commercial development known as Palestra for Southpoint General Partner - a joint venture between Blackfriars Investments and Royal London Asset Management.

Working with its M&E company as a partner instead of the traditional contractor/M&E subcontractor relationship, Skanska will be providing the client with a streamlined, focused and cost effective integrated solution.

Alsop Architects and structural engineers Buro Happold, who have been novated to Skanska under the design/build contract, are producing design development of the distinctive scheme. In addition, Aukett is carrying out the environmental services design enabling construction works to commence on site during February 2004.

When completed, in mid-2006, Palestra will provide 420,000 square feet gross (300,000 square feet net) of shell, core and initial fit-out office and retail space near Blackfriars Bridge and Southwark Underground Station

Other members of the project team include CB Richard Ellis - client’s project manager, Atkins Faithful and Gould - employer’s cost consultant and Buro Happold (Services) - client’s retained consultant.
