Skanska completes latest building at Walsgrave Hospital

Press release 23/04/2003 00:00 CET

Skanska has handed over the fourth building on its five-year project to construct the PFI’s biggest ever hospital right on schedule, less than a year after work started.

The latest facility is a new crèche for up to 120 children of staff at Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry, which the new hospital is replacing. It comes a month after the Computer Network Services facility was completed and is part of a phased hand over of services from Walgrave Hospital to the new hospital, located on the same site.

Construction director Paul Wright, "All buildings completed so far have been bang on programme and progress is going well across the whole site."

The other buildings completed by Skanska so far are the Oncology Day Centre and the new Centre for Reproductive Medicine, which both opened last year. The new 1212-bed acute hospital for the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust also includes a 130-bed mental health unit for Coventry Primary Care Trust on the same site and will be fully open by 2007.
