EGYPTIAN DESERT TELEVISION STUDIOS TAKING SHAPE

Press release 09/12/1999 00:00 CET

With 12 massive tower cranes framed against the desert skyline, the £188 million Mubarak television studio complex just outside Cairo, which is being constructed by Kvaerner Construction International, is beginning to take shape.

The cranes have helped the company meet its first deadline with the recent topping out of the 150,000m2 studio’s powerhouse.

Kvaerner Construction International is building the complex, unofficially dubbed Hollywood on the Nile, in partnership with Sony Broadcast and Professional Europe. It will be one of the world’s largest studio complexes ever built.

Kvaerner is constructing 14 studios including four of 600m2 and two of 900m2 which it will also fully equip. Kvaerner Construction’s specialist design arm, Kvaerner Technology, is involved in the design development of the structures, environmental and technical services and the critical acoustic design.
