Skanska CLASP’s new partnering agreement

Press release 11/07/2001 00:00 CET

CLASP, the body behind one of the longest-running building systems for schools and public buildings, has chosen Skanska Construction to join it in a new drive to deliver best value property solutions to its communities.

It has entered a framework agreement with Skanska Construction as its partnering contractor under an exclusive 3-year programme worth in excess of £30 million.

For more than 40 years, CLASP – Consortium of Local Authorities Special Programme – has provided a rapid-build structural system in Britain and Europe, covering schools, university, healthcare facilities, defence and various public buildings.

In launching the new agreement, CLASP is establishing a new era of partnership between the public and private sectors. Skanska was chosen for its management skills and strong commitment to achieving the highest environmental standards.

Under the new framework arrangement, Skanska and CLASP will work with the local government and public sector bodies to harness the latest technology to provide complete building solutions using best value practice in line with the Egan principles.
This framework has been approved by M4I as a demonstration project. Its aim is to develop a system, with a fully intergrated supply chain, providing whole-site solutions and target new opportunities within the private and public sector.

The framework arrangement challenges traditional procurement methods embracing the following key benefits:-

 Pre-contract timescales shortened
 Tendering process eased
 Meets diversity of clients needs
 Delivers continuous improvement
 Intergrate client/contractor processes
