Kvaerner Construction has been awarded a £2.25 million land reclamation contract as part of an English Partnership scheme to regenerate a former coal field near Leeds.
The project involves nine months of excavation and recompacting on the 60-acre former Allerton Bywater coal field in preparation for its redevelopment as part of a Millennium Communities competition.
Once Kvaerner Construction has completed its cut and fill operation and has capped the whole coal field, the former British Coal site will be developed into the country’s second Millennium Village - the first is under construction in Greenwich.
