Skanska hands over first phase of Redbridge school PFI

Press release 22/03/2002 00:00 CET

Skanska has handed over a sports hall for Oaks Park High School in Redbridge within six months of starting on site. The hall is part of the 1,450-place secondary school Skanska is building under the PFI for Norwich Union Public Private Partnership Fund.

To mark its opening, some lucky pupils took part in an afternoon of fun with top basketball team the London Leopards. After putting them through a rigorous three pointer, lay up, slam dunking session, London Leopards coach Chris Pullen said, “This facility is the best I have seen in any school.” Another bonus for the hall is that the Leopards will now use it for training.

As the pupils are currently housed in temporary accommodation next to the site, safety is a key priority and Skanska also presented a prize for the winning design of a safety poster. It is now being displayed around the site.

The school will be completed by January next year.
