Skanska announces that it has received a contract valued at £92 million from Costain and will work with them on a scheme to construct around 33km of cable tunnels for National Grid through the heart of London.
Under the contract, the team will be responsible for the construction of around 33km of new high voltage electricity cable tunnel between Hackney and Willesden (via Kensal Green) and Kensal Green and Wimbledon. Work also includes the construction of access shafts and head houses for electrical equipment.
Works will start this year, with the tunnelling being completed by end of 2014 and with all associated works completed in November 2018.
