Skanska celebrates a key milestone in the development of a Scottish Prison.

Scottish Prison Service joined the Skanska team and subcontractors to mark the topping out

At the end of November, members of Scottish Prison Service joined the Skanska team and its subcontractors to mark the topping out of HMP & YOI Grampian located in Peterhead – a ceremony held when a building reaches it’s highest point.

A short ceremony was held to recognise the hard work and determination of everyone involved on the project – this included the Scandanavian tradition of passing an evergreen tree over the completed structure to symbolise growth and bring good luck.

Gareth Jacques, Project Director for Skanska’s Central and Regions Operating Unit, commented: “I would like to thank everyone for their contribution and ongoing support.

“This is a fantastic project with a team of people who continue to meet all the challenges thrown at them with a positive ‘can do’ attitude. They can be proud of what they have achieved.”

Construction of the new prison is due for completion in July 2013 and will be home to over 500 in-mates when the prison opens in early 2014.
