Workplaces by Skanska launches The Monument Building to the market

Skanska has formally launched The Monument Building, its 90,000sqft (8,360sqm) office-led development in the City of London, at a launch event attended by 30 of the top City agents.

The event was held at the prestigious Fishmongers Hall at One London Bridge, home to one of London’s most historic livery companies, which holds the freehold for part of The Monument Building development site

Under the Workplaces by Skanska banner, work started on site in December 2013. The project will see the existing buildings at 11-19 Monument Street, 46 Fish Street Hill and 1-2 Pudding Hill replaced with an office scheme over nine floors, with floor plates offering approximately 10,500sqft (1,000sqm), plus ground-floor retail accommodation.

Skanska’s Neal Pickering said: “The long story of the City of London is one of change, transformation and, conversely, tradition. Nowhere is this better understood than at the Fishmongers Hall, which is steeped in its history and heritage.

“The development of The Monument Building, adjacent to Pudding Lane and The Monument itself, is the part of the ever-changing face of The Square Mile."

Stuart Lawson of Savills, appointed to let the office element of the scheme, commented: “The Monument Building not only provides a very striking design, but the building and floorplates have also been carefully designed to enhance the working environment of occupiers within the building.”

Skanska purchased the site in 2012. The scheme, designed by architect Ken Shuttleworth’s Make, was granted planning consent in April 2013. Completion is scheduled for the fourth quarter in 2015.

The Monument Building is designed to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating. Features include LED lighting, showers, cycle parking and a roof terrace with photovoltaic panels. Skanska is now marketing the development to occupiers looking for office space of 10,000sqft (929sqm) or more.

Savills is acting as letting agent for the office space and Nash Bond for the retail accommodation. GVA advised on planning and Arup has been appointed as engineer.
