Press release 17/09/2013 13:44 CET

With just over a week to go before Open Doors Weekend 2013, now is the time to sign-up to take a tour at any of the five participating Skanska sites.

South Essex College - front entrance

St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, the Royal London Hospital, Crossrail Paddington Station, M25 junctions 5–7 managed motorway and the Thurrock campus of South Essex College are all inviting members of the public to find out more about their work and careers in the construction industry.

The Crossrail Paddington site is fully booked on both days (27 and 28 September) but places are still available at the other locations.

As part of the event members of the public will get the opportunity to go on a site tour, speak with construction workers and learn more about career opportunities.

Skanska Executive Vice-President Bill Hocking said:

“We are delighted with the response to date and very much hope that as many people as possible will be able to visit one of the sites.

“Open Doors Weekend is a unique opportunity for us to demonstrate the complexity and excitement of working in such a fascinating industry.

“Construction is a significant contributor to the national and regional economies and we very much want to demonstrate the diverse and exciting range of career opportunities on offer.”

The weekend is the result of a partnership of four leading industry bodies; the UK Contractors Group (UKCG), CITB-ConstructionSkills, The Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) and the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
