Gammon Construction, Kvaerner Construction’s Hong Kong-based associate, has won five major contracts together worth £33 million (HK$420m), including its biggest ever contract on mainland China.
The £16.25 million (HK$205.5m) Hua Wei Electrical Appliance project in Shenzhen, China, involves the construction of high-tech research and development and industrial units including a 91,000 square metre nine-storey office building and a 60,000 square metre factory. The contract is due for completion in June next year.
Gammon has also been awarded a £4.3 million (HK$55.5m) contract from Helping Hand to build a home for the elderly in the Guangdong Province of China. The 300-bed home includes staff quarters, an administration block and landscaping. The contract, due for completion in June 2000, has been financed by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.
The company has secured a third contract in Suzhou, China, worth £1.5 million (HK$20m) for Schindler Electronics. Gammon will build a 5,000 square metre steel framed factory with a two storey office building in a contract scheduled for completion in February 2000.
In Hong Kong the company’s foundations division has won two contracts together worth £11 million. It has been awarded a £7.2 million (HK$91m) contract to install 600 bored and mini piles for the Mass Transit Railway Corporation’s Tseung Kwan O Extension project at Tiu Keng Leng Station. This work is due for completion in May 2000.
The company has also signed a £3.8 million (HK$48.2m) contract with Hong Kong’s Highways department to carry our investigation work for a road between Tsing Yi and Cheung Sha Wan. Gammon will install approximately 170 land and marine drill holes and carry out 50 penetration tests by the end of November.
