Some of the brightest minds in Britain are working in Renfrewshire to ensure Britain is at the forefront of manufacturing technology. While they strive to find innovations which will make the world better, they trust Skanska to make sure the facilities they work in are looked after efficiently.

The Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC) is a globally-recognised centre of excellence in innovative manufacturing technologies, research and development, and metal forming and forging research.

The £35 million facility is a collaborative venture between the University of Strathclyde, Scottish Enterprise, the UK Government and leading multinational engineering firms. It is one of seven elite centres that form the UK High Value Manufacturing Catapult which is a catalyst for the future growth and success in manufacturing.

Skanska provides a full facilities management service with planned maintenance and 24/7 emergency cover for both the AFRC in Renfrewshire and also the University of Strathclyde’s Power Networks Demonstration Centre in Cumbernauld.

These buildings include specialist industrial areas, workshops, classrooms, meeting rooms, eating areas, social areas, gardens and offices.

The smooth running of the site is crucial to the University of Strathclyde. The AFRC has doubled in size since 2014 and Skanska’s flexibility has ensured the facilities management has adapted to incorporate this rapid growth.

The contract consists of the full range of services with monthly reports forming part of regular communication with the university estate team to ensure everything runs as efficiently as possible. As expected from a customer at the cutting edge of technology, Skanska is using high-tech innovations and software including its computer aided facility management (CAFM) services.

Skanska provides:

  • Health and safety management
  • Facilities performance monitoring and reporting
  • Helpdesk 24/7
  • CAFM system management (including app support)
  • Project management
  • Statutory inspections and compliance
