HS2 enabling works

Noise and Vibration Support

The project

High Speed 2 (HS2) is a government funded scheme to build a new railway from London to Birmingham and latterly to Manchester & Leeds.

Costain Skanska Joint Venture (CSJV) secured the contract for the south section of the enabling works. Which included demolition, preparatory and early works at key locations around Euston, Old Oak Common and a few smaller sites in-between.

The challenge

The size, location and number of contractors involved on the project was complex.  There were challenges controlling subcontractor’s methodology which was a risk to the project.

The solution

We, as Skanska N&V consultants were onboarded to the project, which was de – risked by numerous briefings and collaborative working methodologies between the N&V manager and the sub-contractors.

The outcome

Skanska’s N&V team made sure that Noise was always being considered by the designers and the construction teams.

3D modelling and an open approach to liaising with residents and local authorities created an environment where people had a clearer idea of what was happening on site, this significantly increased the social sustainability of the project and reduce impact to the residents.
